Since September 1, 2021, Texans 21 and older who may lawfully possess a handgun can carry it concealed or openly in a holster without a license. The optional License to Carry from the Texas Department of Public Safety is honored in more than 35 states, replaces the dealer background check and gets past 30.05 signs that stop permitless carriers. Businesses bar carry with 30.06 and 30.07 signs, and bars with a 51% sign are off limits. The Bexar County Sheriff's office can point you to local certified LTC instructors.
Texas Parks and Wildlife sets the seasons. The 2026-27 general white-tailed deer season opens November 7, 2026 and runs to January 3, 2027 in the North Zone and January 17, 2027 in the South Zone, with archery in October and special late seasons in many counties; mule deer seasons in the Panhandle and Trans-Pecos are shorter. Any centerfire rifle or handgun is legal for deer; rimfire is not. Feral hogs have no season or limit on private land. Check the Outdoor Annual for Bexar County.
